AI Design Requests — Ask for a Design from a Brief

Set up an AI design request, from size and slide count to content source, inspiration and description, then generate it On Demand or in Batch.

An AI design request is a brief you hand to Orsa AI. You pick a size, link the content the design is about, add some inspiration and a short description, and Orsa AI makes the design for you.

Use it when you know what a post should say but don’t want to start from a blank canvas. When the design is ready, you can ask for changes, approve it, or open it in the design editor to finish it yourself. That part is covered in Reviewing and Editing an AI Design.

AI Design is in beta.

Find your requests on the AI Design tab of the Create page.

Quick start (5 minutes)

  1. Open the AI Design tab of the Create page.
  2. Click Create, pick AI Design, then click Create. A new request opens.
  3. Under Configure, check the size. A new request starts as Instagram Post (1080x1350) with 1 slide.
  4. Under Content Source *, click Select a source and pick an idea.
  5. In Description, replace the starting text with your brief.
  6. Click Generate Design.
  7. Wait about a minute. The design appears in the Preview on the right.

Example: a bakery links its idea “Pumpkin bread is back” and writes: Single Instagram post announcing pumpkin bread is back for fall. Warm, cozy feel. Mention it’s available weekends only.

Configure: size, slides and generation mode

The Configure card has three buttons. You can change them until you click Generate Design.

Platform & Size

Pick what the design is for. Only these sizes work with AI Design:

Size Dimensions
Instagram Post 1080 × 1350
Instagram Story 1080 × 1920
Facebook Post 1200 × 630
Facebook Cover 820 × 312
Twitter Post 1200 × 675
LinkedIn Post 1200 × 627
Pinterest Pin 1000 × 1500
Case Study 595 × 842
Guide 595 × 842
Document A4 595 × 842
Presentation Slide 16:9 1920 × 1080

Other sizes, like Reels, TikTok videos or YouTube thumbnails, aren’t offered here. Make those in the design editor.

Slide or page count

  • Social sizes: 1 slide up to 5 slides.
  • Document A4 and Presentation Slide 16:9: 1 page up to 10 pages.

Example: for a carousel of “3 ways to style our linen shirt”, pick Instagram Post (1080x1350) and 3 slides.

Generation Mode

Mode Credits How long it takes How you find out
On Demand Shown as 1 credit Usually about a minute The preview updates by itself
Batch Shown as 0.5 credit Longer: requests are sent off every 15 minutes, and the result shows up at a later 15-minute check You get a notification, “AI Design Ready for Review”

Pick Batch when you’re not in a hurry. It uses about half the credits of On Demand. Revisions use the same mode as the request.

Content Source

Every request needs a Content Source *. It’s what the design is about. Generate Design stays greyed out until you pick one. Hovering over it says “Please select a source”.

  1. Click Select a source.
  2. Pick a type: Ideas, Transcripts, Documents, Blogs, Videos or Marketing Emails.
  3. Search for the item and click it.

You can link one source per request. For a video, Orsa AI works from the video’s transcript.

Example: a gym already wrote a blog post, “5 stretches for desk workers”. They pick Blogs, choose that post, and ask for a 5-slide Instagram carousel, one stretch per slide.

Design Inspiration

Inspiration shows Orsa AI the look you want. It’s optional.

For social sizes, pick one kind of inspiration:

  • Favorite: one AI design your brand has starred before. See Reviewing and Editing an AI Design. If you haven’t starred any yet, you’ll see “No favorite designs available. Mark designs as favorites first.”
  • Design: one of your brand’s designs from the Designs tab.
  • Upload: up to 3 images from your files, like reference photos or logos.

Once you’ve picked something, the other two buttons are greyed out. Remove your pick to switch.

For Document A4 and Presentation Slide 16:9, you choose either one Favorite AI Designs item or one Inspiration Designs item.

Example: a florist likes the layout of last week’s AI post. They star it, then pick it under Favorite for this week’s request.

Files to use, Approver and Description

Files to use: images you want in the design, like a product photo. Click the add button and pick from your brand’s files.

Approver: the one teammate who should check the design. Picking someone else with Change replaces them.

Description: your brief. A new request starts with an empty description. Write what you want. The description is also the request’s name on its card; until you write one, the card is called “AI Design Request”.

A good description says:

  • What the design is for.
  • What it should say.
  • How it should feel.
  • Anything to avoid.

Example: 3-slide Instagram story for our spring sale. Slide 1: “Spring sale, 20% off everything”. Slide 2: three best sellers. Slide 3: “Shop this weekend only”. Keep it minimal, warm tones, no text over the product.

Generate Design

  1. Check every setting. After you click Generate Design, the request is locked and you can’t change the settings, source, files or description.
  2. Click Generate Design. The button shows Generating Design… and a Generating… badge appears at the top.
  3. Wait. With On Demand, the preview usually fills in about a minute. With Batch, you can leave the page. You get a notification when it’s ready.

When the design is ready, the request’s status changes to Review. See Reviewing and Editing an AI Design.

On a phone, the request and the preview are on two tabs: Request and Preview.

Request statuses

Each request card on the AI Design tab shows its status:

Status What it means
Draft Not generated yet. You can still change everything.
In Progress Orsa AI is making the design or a revision.
Review A version is ready to look at, revise or approve.
Approved Someone approved it. No more revisions.
Failed The last attempt didn’t work.

Click a card, or View in its ⋮ menu, to open the request in a new tab. To see only one status, open Filter and pick Draft, In Progress, Review, Approved or Failed under Status. Use the search box to find requests by their description.

Click ⋮ at the top of a request:

  • Copy Link copies the request’s address. Teammates in the brand can open it.
  • Delete asks you to confirm, then deletes the request. There is no undo. Designs you already opened in the editor with Edit stay in Designs.

You can also delete a request from its card’s ⋮ menu on the AI Design tab.

Ideas for using AI Design

Turn an idea into a post.

A coffee shop has an idea, “Oat milk is now free”. They link it, pick Instagram Post (1080x1350), 1 slide, On Demand, and write Bold announcement, our green and cream colors, big headline “Oat milk is on us”.

Repurpose a blog into a carousel.

A dentist links the blog “How often should you replace your toothbrush?”, picks 5 slides and Batch, and writes One tip per slide, friendly and simple, end with “Book your check-up”. They get a notification later.

Make a one-page guide.

A yoga studio picks Guide, 2 pages, links its document “Beginner’s first class checklist”, and writes Printable checklist with our logo, calm and airy.

Tips for the best results

  • Set up your brand first. Orsa AI uses your Brand Kit, your visual identity and the design rules in your Playbook. The more you’ve filled in, the more the design looks like you.
  • Link an idea with pillars. When the source is an idea, its content pillars and audiences go to Orsa AI too. See Content Pillars.
  • Write the words you want. Put your exact headline and call to action in the Description. Otherwise Orsa AI writes them from the source.
  • Keep text short. A design with a lot of text on one slide can be too much to open in the editor later. Fewer words per slide works better.
  • Use one strong inspiration. One design you love says more than a vague description of a style.
  • Use Batch for planned content. If you’re making next week’s posts, Batch costs about half and you’ll be notified when each one is ready.
  • Check everything before you generate. Settings lock once you click Generate Design.

Common questions

Generate Design is greyed out. Hover over the button. “Please select a source” means no Content Source is linked yet: pick one first. If your brand is out of AI credits, the button says why underneath. See the next question.

I see “AI credit limit reached. Upgrade your plan or buy an AI Credit Pack to continue.” Your brand has used all its AI credits for this billing period. The request stays a Draft, and Generate Design is greyed out with “You’re out of AI credits” underneath. Buy an AI Credit Pack, move to a bigger plan, or wait for the next period. See Plans and Billing.

I can’t change the description or size anymore. The request was already generated, so it’s locked. Ask for changes with a revision instead. See Reviewing and Editing an AI Design.

The size I want isn’t in Platform & Size. Only the sizes in the table above work with AI Design. For other sizes, start a design in the design editor, or open your AI design with Edit and resize it there.

My Batch request is still In Progress. Batch is slower than On Demand. Requests go out every 15 minutes, and the result comes back at a later check. Requests with uploaded inspiration images can wait a little longer while the images are looked at first.

I picked a Favorite but now I want to upload images instead. Remove the favorite first. The other inspiration buttons only unlock when nothing is picked.

My request card is called “AI Design Request”. The request has no description yet. The card shows the description as its name. Write your own description before you generate.

Search doesn’t find my AI design requests. Search looks at the request’s description, so a request with no description can’t be found by search. Use the Status filter, or scroll the list and click Load More. Newest requests are at the top.

Who can see my requests? Everyone on the brand can see, open and delete the brand’s AI design requests.
