AI Image Tools
Remove a photo's background, find and edit objects in a photo by describing them, fix text case in one click, and trim and fit videos in the design editor.
The design editor has built-in tools for editing photos, text and video without leaving your design:
- Remove background: cut a person or product out of its background.
- Edit objects: describe something in a photo, like “cup” or “shirt”, then brighten it, recolor it, blur it, remove it, or save it on its own.
- Capitalize Each Word: fix the case of a headline in one click.
- Video tools: trim a clip, make it fill the page, and match the page’s length to the video.
Photo tools appear in the toolbar at the top when you select a photo. Video tools appear when you select a video. Open any design from the Create page to use them.
Quick start (5 minutes)
- Add a product photo from Brand Assets.
- Click the photo to select it.
- Click Remove bg in the toolbar. After a few seconds, a copy without the background appears on top of the original.
- Select the original photo underneath and delete it.
- Click Brand and pick a color to give the page a new background.
Example: a candle shop removes the kitchen-counter background from a product shot and places the candle on its brand’s cream background with the headline “Autumn scents are back”.
Removing a photo’s background
- Select a photo on the canvas.
- Click Remove bg in the toolbar. Its tooltip says Remove background.
- The button shows Removing… while it works. This usually takes a few seconds.
- A new copy of the photo, without its background, appears on top of the original, slightly offset.
The original photo stays on the page, so you can compare them. Delete it when you’re happy with the new one.
The cut-out photo is also saved to your Brand Assets as a new file, so you can reuse it in other designs. If you remove the background of the same Brand Assets photo again, you get the saved cut-out straight away.
If it fails, you’ll see “Failed to remove background”. Try again, or try a different photo.
Example: a hair salon removes the background from a stylist’s portrait and places it on a coral circle for a “Meet the team” post.
Editing objects in a photo
Edit objects finds things in a photo from a short description. You can then adjust just that part of the photo, remove it, or save it on its own.
Finding an object
- Select a photo on the canvas.
- Click Edit objects in the toolbar. Its tooltip says Find object by description.
- Under “What object do you want to select?”, type a short description, like “cup”, “person” or “shirt”.
- Click Find or press Enter. The button shows Loading… while it looks. This can take a little while.
Descriptions you’ve already used on this photo show as buttons above the box. Click one to search for it again.
When it’s done, the Edit Objects tab opens on the left, and the canvas is replaced by a large view of the photo. The tab lists what it found, like “2 objects found”, with each one named after your description, like cup 1 and cup 2. Point at an object in the list to highlight it in the photo.
Adjusting an object
-
Click an object in the list. If it found more than one, you can also click Edit all 2 objects to change them together.
-
Move the sliders. Only the object changes:
Slider What it does Brightness Lighter or darker Contrast More or less difference between light and dark Saturation Stronger or duller color Vibrance Boosts muted colors more than strong ones Temperature Warmer (yellow) or cooler (blue) Blur Softens the object, from 0 to 20 -
Click Apply. You’ll see “Adjustment applied.”
The photo in your design is swapped for the edited copy. The edited copy is saved to your Brand Assets, and the original file there isn’t changed.
Click Back to return to the list without applying.
Example: a coffee shop finds “cup” in a cafe photo, raises Saturation and Brightness so the latte art pops, and clicks Apply. The rest of the photo stays the same.
Removing an object
- Click one object in the list.
- Click Remove. The button shows Removing… while it works.
- The object is erased and the gap is filled in to match the surroundings. You’ll see “Object removed.”
Remove works on one object at a time, and only on photos from your Brand Assets. On other photos, such as stock photos, you’ll see “Save the design before removing objects.” Upload the photo to Brand Assets and add it from there to remove objects from it.
Example: a real-estate agent finds “trash can” in a front-yard photo and clicks Remove, so the listing photo looks tidy.
Saving an object on its own
Click the Save to brand assets button next to an object in the list. The object is cut out with a transparent background and saved to your Brand Assets. You’ll see “Saved to brand assets.”
Example: a bakery finds “croissant” in a counter photo and saves it to Brand Assets. They then use the cut-out croissant on a “Fresh today” badge.
Leaving Edit objects
Click ✕ at the top of the Edit Objects tab, or click anywhere outside the tab, to go back to the normal canvas. Changes you haven’t applied are dropped.
Capitalize Each Word
- Select one or more text boxes.
- Click Capitalize Each Word in the toolbar.
Every word starts with a capital letter, and the other letters become lower case. For example, “spring menu is here” becomes “Spring Menu Is Here”.
It also changes words you wrote in capitals on purpose: “NEW iPhone deals” becomes “New Iphone Deals”. Fix those by hand, or press undo.
Trimming and fitting videos
Select a video on the canvas to see these buttons in the toolbar:
Trim
- Click Trim. A strip of frames from the video opens.
- Drag the blue handles at either end to set where the clip starts and stops. The box on the left shows the clip’s new length in seconds.
Fit to background
Click Fit to background to make the video fill the whole page. Edges that don’t fit are cropped, so the video isn’t stretched.
Fit slide length to video
Each page plays for a set length when the design is downloaded or published as a video. Click the Fit slide length to video button to make the page last exactly as long as the video. Its tooltip shows the length, like “Fit slide length to video (12.5s)”. It uses the trimmed length, and it’s greyed out when the page already matches.
Example: a gym trims a 40-second workout clip down to its best 15 seconds, clicks Fit to background for a full-screen reel, then clicks Fit slide length to video (15.0s) so the page doesn’t end early.
For downloading videos, see Downloading a video.
Ideas for using the AI image tools
Clean product shots.
An online gift shop removes the background from every product photo and places them on the same brand-colored background, so the feed looks consistent.
Make the product the hero.
A juice bar finds “bottle” in a busy picnic photo and raises Brightness and Saturation on the bottle. Then it finds “people”, clicks Edit all 4 objects, and adds some Blur, so the bottle stands out.
Remove distractions.
A hotel finds “sign” in a lobby photo taken from Brand Assets and clicks Remove, so a temporary “Wet floor” sign doesn’t end up in a post.
Build a sticker library.
A florist finds “bouquet” in a shop photo and uses Save to brand assets. The cut-out bouquet now works on any background in future designs.
Tips for the best results
- Use short, simple descriptions. “cup” works better than “the blue cup on the left”. If several match, pick the right one from the list.
- Add photos from Brand Assets if you want to remove objects. Remove doesn’t work on stock photos.
- Use clear, well-lit photos. Background removal and object finding work best when the subject stands out from what’s behind it.
- Keep the original until you’re sure. Remove bg adds a copy on top, so you can compare before deleting the original.
- Apply one change at a time. Each Apply or Remove saves a new photo, so you can build up edits step by step.
- Check headlines after Capitalize Each Word. It changes brand names and short forms like “USA” too.
- Fit the slide length after trimming a video, so the page matches the new length.
Common questions
I don’t see Remove bg or Edit objects. Select a photo first. These buttons only show for photos, not text, shapes or videos. They’re also hidden on a design locked by a scheduled or published post.
Edit objects can’t find my object. Try a simpler or different word for the same thing, like “person” instead of “chef”, or “plant” instead of “fern”.
Edit objects keeps showing Loading…. If nothing in the photo matches, the search can keep running. Wait a few seconds after your last change so the design saves, then reload the page and try a different description.
I see “Remove object only works on photos from your brand library.” Remove only works on photos added from Brand Assets. Upload the photo to Brand Assets, add it to the design from there, and try again.
The Edit Objects tab closed by itself. Clicking anywhere outside the tab, like on the canvas or another tab, closes it. Find the object again to continue.
Where did my edited photo go? After Apply or Remove, the photo in your design is replaced by the edited copy. The copy is also saved to Brand Assets, and the original file is still there.
Remove background left the old photo behind. That’s on purpose. The cut-out is added on top so you can compare. Select the original underneath, or use Layers, and delete it.
The Fit slide length button is greyed out. The page is already as long as the video.
