Design Templates and Your Brand Kit

Start designs from templates, add on-brand text, colors and logos, and use your own photos, favourites and stock media in the design editor.

The design editor’s side tabs give you everything you need to build a design: ready-made layouts, your brand’s text styles, colors and logos, your own photos, and stock media. This guide covers the Templates, Brand, Brand Assets, Elements and Stock tabs.

For the rest of the editor (sizes, pages, saving and Exit), see Using the Design Editor.

Quick start (5 minutes)

  1. Open a design from the Create page.
  2. Click Templates, then Brand Templates. Click Use template on one of your brand’s templates. If you have none yet, use the Templates tab next to it and click any layout.
  3. Click Brand and click your Headline text style (or Add a heading). Double-click the new text and type your message.
  4. Under Logos in the same tab, click your logo. It lands at the right size and position.
  5. Click Brand Assets and click one of your photos to add it.
  6. Click Exit when you’re done.

Example: a coffee shop opens a new design, picks its “Weekly special” brand template, changes the headline to “Maple oat latte, this week only”, swaps in a photo from Brand Assets, and clicks Exit.

Templates

The Templates tab has two tabs of its own: Templates (ready-made layouts) and Brand Templates (your brand’s own templates).

Ready-made templates

  1. Click Templates, then the Templates tab.
  2. Type in Search… to find a theme, like “sale” or “coffee”.
  3. Click a template to use it.

What happens when you click a template:

  • If your design has one page, the template replaces that page and the design takes the template’s size.
  • If your design has several pages, the template replaces only the page you’re on. Your other pages stay as they are.

Click undo (or press Cmd/Ctrl + Z) if you change your mind.

Show templates with the same size is on by default, so you only see templates that match your design’s size. It follows Platform & Size when you resize a one-page design or use Apply to all pages. If your pages have different sizes, it uses the size the design started at or the last size applied to every page. Turn it off to see templates of every size.

Your brand’s templates

Brand templates are designs your team saved as templates. They’re shared with everyone in your brand.

  1. Click Templates, then Brand Templates.
  2. Each template shows its name, how many pages it has, and a preview of each page. Use the arrows to flip through the pages. A template that hasn’t saved its previews yet shows “No preview yet”.
  3. Click Use template to load it into your design, or View to open the template itself in a new browser tab.

Use template replaces your whole design. Every page is swapped for the template’s pages. You’re asked to confirm first, and you can undo it with the undo button while you stay in the editor. It’s still safest on a new, empty design, or duplicate your design first from the Create page.

The design you have open is never listed, even if it’s a template.

Saving a design as a template

  1. Open the design you want to reuse.
  2. Click ⋮ at the top right and pick Save as template.

The design stays in your Designs list with a Template badge, and it now appears under Brand Templates for everyone in your brand. To find all your templates on the Create page, filter by Templates only. See The Create Page.

To stop using it as a template, click ⋮ → Remove as template. The design itself isn’t deleted.

Example: a gym designs one “Class of the week” post with its colors, logo and a photo placeholder, then saves it as a template. Each week, the team opens a new design, picks it from Brand Templates, and only changes the class name and photo.

The Brand tab

The Brand tab puts your brand’s look one click away: text styles, colors and logos. They come from your Brand Kit and its Visual identity. The tab updates to fit the page you’re on, so sizes and positions match that page’s size.

If nothing is set up yet, you’ll see “Add your brand’s colors, text styles and logos in Brand Kit to use them here.”

Text and text styles

If your brand has text styles, you’ll see them under Text styles: Headline, Subheadline, Body, Caption, Label, Call to action, Number or stat and Quote (only the ones you’ve set up). Each shows its font and the size it will be on this page.

  • To add text, click a style with nothing selected. A text box with sample words, like “Your headline”, appears inside your brand margins, ready to edit.
  • To restyle text, select one or more text boxes first, then click a style. The hint changes to “Click a style to apply it to the 2 selected text boxes.”

If the page background is your Primary color, text styles use their reverse color, so your text stays readable on dark designs.

No text styles yet? You’ll see Text instead, with Add a heading, Add a subheading and Add body text.

Example: a bakery selects the two text boxes on a slide and clicks Headline. Both switch to Playfair Display, sized for the page, in the brand’s text color.

Colors

Colors shows your brand’s color roles, like Background, Primary and Accent, with their hex codes.

  • With nothing selected, clicking a color sets the page background.
  • With text or shapes selected, clicking a color colors them. Photos and other items aren’t colored.

Your Brand Kit colors also appear as swatches in the color picker in the toolbar, and your Brand Kit fonts appear in the font list. If your Brand Kit uses Google fonts, they’re listed first, followed by all other Google fonts.

Logos

Logos shows each version of your logo from Logo variants. Click one to add it. It’s placed at the size and corner set in your Logo rules, inside your brand margins.

Each logo tile says where that version belongs, based on what you ticked under Use on:

  • Default marks the version to use first.
  • Use on Background or Use on Primary names the backgrounds it suits.
  • Photos in the list, like Use on Primary, Photos, means it’s fine on top of a photo.
  • Use anywhere means no limits were set.

The label is a guide. The editor doesn’t stop you from placing any version anywhere, so check it before you add it to a photo.

Example: on a post with a full-bleed photo, a florist clicks the tile that says Use on Primary, Photos: the white icon logo. The full-color logo, marked Use on Background, would get lost on the busy photo.

Brand guides

Tick Show brand guides at the top of the Brand tab to see:

  • A dashed line labelled Brand margin with its size, like “Brand margin · 54px”. Keep text and logos inside it.
  • Red areas, for some sizes, labelled “Red areas may be covered by” the platform, for example on stories and reels, where the app’s buttons and captions sit on top of your design. Keep important text out of them.

The guides only show in the editor. They never appear in downloads or published posts. The setting is remembered in this browser.

Brand Assets

The Brand Assets tab shows your brand’s photo, video and audio library, right inside the editor. It’s the same library as Assets. See Your Assets Library.

Adding a photo or video

  1. Click Brand Assets. It opens on Pictures.
  2. Pick All, Pictures, Videos or Audio to switch type.
  3. Click a file to add it. Photos and videos go in the middle of the current page, scaled down to fit if they’re bigger than the page. Audio is added to the design as a soundtrack that starts at the beginning.
  4. Drag the corners to resize it.

Uploading without leaving the editor

  1. In Brand Assets, click Upload Panel.
  2. Drop your files in, or browse for them, and start the upload.
  3. Click Close Panel to go back to your library, then click the new file to add it.

You can upload JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC photos, MP4 and MOV videos, MP3 audio, and TXT files. Uploads are saved to your brand’s library, so the whole team can reuse them. Text files can’t be added to a design. See Uploading Files.

Finding the right file

  • Search: type a file name or word.
  • Smart: click Smart in the search box to search by meaning, then press Enter. For example, “me talking about cookies” finds a video where you do.
  • More → Filter out used files: hides files already used in any design. Handy for finding fresh photos.

Each file also has a menu (hover over it, then click the menu button) with Find similar, Manage tags, Download, Copy Link, Delete File and, for videos, Generate Transcript or View Transcript.

Delete File asks you to confirm, then removes the file from your brand’s library. Designs that use it keep their copy.

Elements and Favourites

The Elements tab has two tabs: Elements and Favourites.

  • Elements: shapes, lines and other graphics. Click one to add it.
  • Favourites: items you saved to reuse, like a styled button, a badge or a group of items.

To save a favourite:

  1. Select one item on the canvas. To save several items together, group them first.
  2. Click the star in the toolbar (Add to favourites). You’ll see “Added to favourites”.

To use a favourite, click it under Elements → Favourites. It’s added to the middle of the page. To remove one, click its trash button (Remove from favourites).

Favourites belong to your brand, so everyone in your team can use them.

Example: a salon designs a coral “Book now” pill with white text, groups the shape and text, and stars it. It’s now one click away in every design.

Stock photos and videos

The Stock tab has free stock media in two tabs: Photos and Videos.

  1. Click Stock, then Photos or Videos.
  2. Type what you’re looking for, like “latte art” or “yoga”.
  3. Click a result to add it to the page.

Stock files aren’t saved to your Brand Assets library.

Ideas for using templates and your Brand Kit

A weekly series that always looks the same.

A bookshop saves its “Staff pick of the week” design as a template. Each Monday someone picks it from Brand Templates in a new design, swaps the book photo from Brand Assets, and edits the title.

On-brand text in seconds.

A dentist’s social manager adds a slide, clicks Label (“NEW PATIENT OFFER”), Headline and Call to action (“Book a check-up”) from the Brand tab. Fonts, sizes and colors all match the brand rules.

Stories that don’t hide your message.

A cafe designing an Instagram Story ticks Show brand guides and moves its price text up, out of the red area at the bottom where the reply bar sits.

A reusable sticker kit.

A bakery stars its “Fresh today” badge, a hand-drawn arrow and its logo lockup. Every new design starts from Favourites instead of rebuilding them.

Tips for the best results

  • Set up your Brand Kit and Visual identity first. The Brand tab can only show text styles, color roles and logos you’ve added. See Visual Identity.
  • Pick the page size before you add brand text and logos. Text style sizes and logo positions are worked out for the page’s size.
  • Use Brand Templates on a new design. Use template replaces every page. You can undo it only until you leave the editor.
  • Let autosave run before saving as a template. A template’s page previews are made when the design saves. Until then it shows “No preview yet”.
  • Upload once, reuse everywhere. Files uploaded from the editor go to your brand library, so teammates can find them with search or Smart search.
  • Turn off “Show templates with the same size” if you resized just one page of a multi-page design and the ready-made templates don’t match it.

Common questions

My template shows “No preview yet” under Brand Templates. Page previews are made when the design saves, about 7 seconds after a change. Open the template, make a small change, wait a few seconds, and click Exit. Also, the design you have open is never listed.

I clicked Use template and lost my design. Use template replaces every page. While you’re still in the editor, click undo. After you leave, if you clicked Exit earlier, open Versions to go back to a saved version. See Design Versions and Collaboration.

The Brand tab only shows “Add a heading”. Your brand has no text styles with a font yet. Set them up in Visual identity → Text styles.

The Brand tab has no colors or logos. Colors shows your color roles, and Logos shows your logo variants. Add them in your Brand Kit under Visual identity.

Clicking a color changed my background instead of my text. Colors only go to selected text and shapes. With nothing selected, or with only a photo selected, the color goes to the page background instead. Select the text or shape first, then click the color.

I don’t see the brand guides on my download. That’s expected. Brand guides only show in the editor.

There are no red areas on my design. Red areas only show for some sizes where the platform covers part of the design, such as stories and reels. Other sizes only show the brand margin, and only if your Visual identity sets one.

The star button isn’t in the toolbar. It only shows when exactly one item is selected. Group several items first to save them as one favourite.
